Treatment Available:

Psychotherapy is conducted using cognitive behavioral and interpersonal techniques for women experiencing perinatal/postpartum depression. Treatment can include the following:

  • Counseling to empower a woman’s self-esteem and body image (especially as relates to women undergoing fertility treatments or conditions such as PCOS) ...

  • Education on postpartum mood disorders and grief process (resources, handouts, book recommendations) ...
  • Postpartum Support Group available ...
  • Referrals to local pregnancy and infant loss support groups ...

Support Groups

Postpartum Women’s Support Group

This group is for women experiencing adjustment difficulty during the postpartum period. Talking with other women who have similar feelings of anxiety or depressed mood can provide validation and encouragement.

Some facts about the group:

  • Some clients many have a diagnosis of postpartum depression.
  • Some clients many have a diagnosis of anxiety.
  • Group is open-ended; participants may begin/end at any time.
  • Group treatment can compliment individual therapy by providing an additional form of social supports and resources.
  • Topics include coping skills for dealing with PPD/Anxiety, parenting skills, enlisting social supports, and enhancing communication with support persons.
  • Several hand-outs and lists of community resources are provided for women who attend the group.
  • Focus of group is generally here-and-now needs of the mother, including symptom-relief and managing daily tasks of living, thereby enhancing a woman’s sense of control
  • Art intervention exercises are available to assist with stress reduction, transition to role of mother, and recovery from PPD/Anxiety.
